Tithing

I have always known about tithing. As a little girl, I was always given a $1.00 to put in the offering plate at Church. I always knew that I was supposed to give to the Church. I have not tithed as an adult unless you count those monthly $10 checks I sent to Feed the Children in my 20’s. I started getting interested in Dave Ramsey about 9 months ago. If you have ever listened to Dave Ramsey, then you know all his worksheets instruct you to tithe. I began following his books 9 months ago with the exception of tithing. I just could not get that figure into my budget.

I picked up a book at the store last week. The book is titled, “Family Money Management God’s Way.” This book is another book that teaches you to tithe. This topic is weighing heavily on my heart and my mind. This book reminds me that my money belongs to GOD. He is the reason that I have this wonderful life that I have. This book reminds me that the book of Proverbs tells me to, “Honor the Lord by giving the first part of all your income.” This book tells me that I should be contributing $504 per month to tithing. I have to tell you this is a scary notion for me. My heart tells me to jump in and do this and my mind screams, “are you crazy!” I prayed for GOD to send me a sign. My sign arrived on Monday morning. The sign was a part-time job opportunity that I thought was long gone. I have a phone interview on Wednesday. I think this is GOD’s way of telling me not to be scared to tithe. Do any of you have tithing miracle stories? I would love to hear them.

I know where I am going to send my tithe’s. There is a Church that is 3 hours from me. I have been listening to all the sermons online and I just love the messages from this Church. You can check out Daystar Church yourself. www.greatsexgodsway.com

*Update* I was offered the job today. She says there is as much work as I can handle. God blessed me.

You will have to excuse the chaos/construction at the blog site. I have got to take an HTML class. Maybe I will ask for a video course on HTML for Christmas.

Education on the cheap

I rarely buy books anymore. My mom is a dedicated reader of historical romance. She is always great to pass on the books that cannot be returned for credit at the used book store. I also enjoy using the library. However, my favorite place in the world for cheap education has to be at Books-A-Million. Nothing makes me happier than to purchase a cheap cup of coffee and wander the aisles of books. I will be heading there today. I have hit a road block with my new website. I have gotten to the point that I need help with writing HTML code for my links. I can't wait to grab an HTML for Dummies book, a hot cup of java, and study my little heart out.

As for family finances.......I am very close to paying off our last credit card. However, it seems hubby will be hitting me up for a new computer soon. I saw a commercial that Walmart is having big deals this weekend on computers and flat screen tv's. Maybe we will load up and head out to Walmart this weekend.

Life gets in the way

That saying is very true in our home this weekend. J came to me last night to let me know that our basement door had crumbled and needed to be replaced. One door, a can of paint, and a new lock cost around $250.00. Combine that with the $150 I spent on clothes to return to work, I spent $400 of the cash I had stashed away to snowball our last credit card. Shoot!!! I guess the positive way to look at it is that I got 11 items at Ross for $150 (great) and at least the door is done.

I tried making my own baby wipes today. Moral of the story.....cheap Dollar General paper towels will not hold up well enough to make wipes! I just have to stick with my Sam's Club box of wipes for $15.00.

Thanks to everyone that is either following the blog or linking to the blog. I have steadily been working on the new site (www.debtfreehome.org) and will be excited to get everything finished. I hope to have some really interesting things and pass on information that has started leading me down the path to living debt free.

Have a wonderful evening.
